App Creator

Course Overview

Looking for a course that can take your child’s creativity to the next level? Our MIT App Inventor 2 programming course is designed to teach your child how to develop mobile apps for Android devices using a drag-and-drop interface. With the help of our experienced instructors, your child will learn how to design and create their own apps, from simple games to innovative utilities that could make a real impact in their daily lives. This course offers a unique opportunity for children to enhance their problem-solving, critical thinking, and programming skills, all while having fun and exploring the exciting world of mobile app development.

Course Objectives

  • Learn the functions and make use of different block types (motion, looks, sounds, pen, data, sensing, events, control, operators, etc.) in their creation
  • Learn strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas
  • Learn to make their very own animations and games

MIT App Inventor

MIT App Inventor is a powerful tool for teaching students various skills related to mobile app development, programming, and computational thinking.

Design Thinking

Students will be using the drag-and-drop interface to design app user interfaces, and learn about user-centered design and design thinking principles. They can test and iterate different designs to optimize user experience.

Problem Solving

Creating mobile apps teaches students how to identify and creatively solve problems. They develop the skill of testing and refining solutions, which is valuable across multiple fields.

Enhance Computational Thinking Skills

App Inventor uses a block-based programming language called Blockly, which helps students to learn about computational thinking and basic programming concepts such as loops, conditionals, and event-driven programming. Through this program, student can also learn about data structures such as lists and dictionaries, and use them to create more complex programs

Problem-Solving

By creating mobile apps, students can learn how to identify problems and come up with creative solutions. They can also learn about how to test and iterate their solutions, which is an important skill in any field.

Real Life Application

At the end of this program, students will take part in our Kode It, Sparkies! Hackathon where they will use all they have learnt to create an app and raise awareness on a topic of their choice (I.e. Global Warming, Cyber Bullying, etc.)
